This piece was inspired by a photograph of a precious little girl who is the daughter of a missionary friend of mine. As soon as I saw it I knew I was going to paint it someday. This piece is titled “The Soul Dreams” It is painted on an 11″ x 14″  Canvas and is done in Acrylics. A paint knife was used to create the scarf and to give it rich strokes of color and texture. I love the warm tones of this painting and how it leaves you feeling hopeful!

It is being sold for $300.00 and all proceeds will go to aid in helping this Missionary family move back to the states as the mom is very sick. If you would like to read more about this family please CLICK HERE.

So, we are driving home from church on Sunday; The leaves on the trees are starting to change to their fall colors, making it such a lovely drive home. In a valley full of dark green trees, there in the center stood a beautiful tree with glowing yellow leaves. I point it out to my husband and say “ Isn’t that beautiful?” He says to me “You are a beautiful yellow tree shinning out from amongst green trees!” (YES he talks like that!) I immediately say “OH! Can I be a beautiful RED tree, shinning out from amongst green trees? I like red so much better the yellow.” He says “Sure! I like Red better too!” What a sweet man! ~~~ I love my life!

So, I sort our laundry into three different baskets: Reds, Whites and Blues, Right! Well my youngest son is red/ green colorblind and has always had a hard time knowing what items go in what basket (as he cannot tell red and green apart). He has been working real hard on this for years. Today with an air of confidence he says to me” OK, I sorted the clothes that I definitely know where they go; but I’m not sure about these last few.” I just had to giggle as I look to see all the red and greens in the red basket; and he leaves the tan colored clothes on the floor undecided! …  I love my Life!

So, my family likes to communicate by using movie quotes and or song lyrics right? Some of my most frequently used at night time are “Good night sweet prince and may flights of angles sing you to your rest.” (HAMLET) or “good night, sleep well, I’ll most likely kill   you in the morning.” (PRINCESS BRIDE) and finally from the same movie “Sleep well, and dream of large women.” So last night when I was halfway into my quote, the thought came to me to mix it up a little and see if my husband was even paying attention or even awake enough to notice. So I said “Sleep well, and dream of large chickens.” To which my husband immediately replied “with mud flaps!” LOL ~ I don’t even know what he meant by that, but we both laughed ourselves to sleep… I LOVE my life!

So, I ask my husband if he is going to take me to lunch at Red Robin while we are in town today. He says “sure if we take the toilet paper back to Fred Meyer first.” With a confused look on my face a say to him “So, let me get this clear, we can go to Red Robin for lunch but we will have to do without toilet paper for two weeks till you get paid again? Is that what you are saying?” laughing he says “No, it’s just that I purchased TP at Fred Meyer the other day then I found it at a better price a Sherm’s and bough more, so I want to take the more expensive stuff back.” So we did go out for lunch, but the whole time I kept thinking about toilet paper. Awkward! ~~~I love My life!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASo the phone rings and I see that the caller ID says Canyonville Christian academy, and automatically think it is Isaiah calling home from school to ask to stay late. (he does that a lot) so I pick up the phone, but when I hear this high pitched voice say” hello?” My mind tells me “Oh, No Isaiah is crying, something must be terribly wrong, what could it be now Lord?” (I can’t even remember him calling home crying ever, but still.)Then the voice says, “Jackie” and I recognize it as being Diane’s voice (the secretary) and for some reason, who knows, I guess since I had jumped to the conclusion already that Isaiah was crying, that now in my mind Diane is crying. My panic muscle flexes even more. I answer “yes” ready to hear the terrible news. There was an agonizing pause of maybe .25 seconds before her reply “Oh hi, I just wanted to verify that your address has changed from… to … Is that right?” Why does my mind do this to me? LOL… I love my life!

So my husband says “hey honey! Want to take a walk with me; it would make me very happy.” I say “sure thing, let me get my shoes on.” I get up and walk over to him to head out and he blocks my way, pulls me into his arms and plants a big kiss on me. I say “OOOO, Do you want to walk, or KISS?” My husband chooses that very moment to let out a huge fart and laugh. I say “ok, it’s to be a Walk then!”  My youngest son in the living room says “Really Dad! Epic Fail!”… I love my life!

I Love My Life! – Jelly Belly

11 Thursday Oct 2012

are you saying I'm fat, belly fat, blue sweater, fat belly, Humor, jelly belly, life, love, miscomunication, punking a friend, sweater

So, I go to church early on Wednesday nights for a prayer meeting, right? Well this Wednesday I forgot to take a sweater, so I borrowed one from my daughter. I show up at church and my 21 year old son is sitting with a friend talking when I walk up to him. He Says “Hey Mom, how was your day? Hey, where did you get that jacket?” I told him “I forgot to bring a sweater with me, so I borrowed one from your sister, cause it is always so cold in the prayer room. You know I can’t handle being cold” to this he replies “Well you have this,” and he reaches out and pokes me in the jelly belly. Now I knew that Isaac meant no harm in his statement and poke, in fact, I was completely aware the he was still formulating in his mind the rest of his statement, as he is not a master communicator by any means. At this point the guy sitting next to him gets this horrified and embarrassed look on his face and he covers his face trying to disappear into the woodwork. Following right on the heals of his friend’s reaction Isaac completes his statement by saying, “Your beautiful blue sweater.” Now, being me, and not being able to resist toying with his friend, I say with a shocked and raised voice tinged with hurt “ What is that suppose to mean? Are you saying that I’m fat, that my fat should keep me warm?” to this his friend says “Yah man, I can’t believe you did that to a woman, especially your mom!” At this point Isaac and I burst out laughing hysterically. I explained to the young man that I was messing with him because of his reaction and that I was not upset with Isaac in the least. LOL~~~ I Love My Life!

Art Lessons ~ Upside Down Drawing

09 Tuesday Oct 2012

art class, art lessons, art students, drawing, drawing on the right side of the brain, learn to draw, pencil drawing, student, upside down

Lesson #2

Here we are learning to make the shift between Left brain (analytically thinking) to the right brain (creative) side. To trick the brain so that the Left side can not name body parts and facial features we flip the line drawing upside down, and then try to duplicate what we see. This is very difficult as the new student’s Dominant Left brain insist on naming things, even if it is not good at it. Eventually the Left side will give up on its task to name everything and allow the Right brain (Creative side) to take over.

It is amazing how good the replication is even for beginners. The point of this exercise is for the student to start to feel the shift from Left to right brain. It is very exciting to hear the students after class talk about the shift. Great Job kids!

Just for fun lets compare this drawing to their first  base line drawing of a human figure.Quite the improvement if you ask me!

Just for fun after our lesson was complete we got out our acrylics again and had some painting fun! These kids are amazing creative!
