The word pearl has become a metaphor for something very rare, fine, admirable, and valuable.
While praying this morning for some most beloved people in my life, I questioned God to “why some people have to endure so much? Why don’t you stop evil things from happening to innocence?
He brought to mind the scripture.
“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”1 Corinthians 10:13
I said’ Lord this doesn’t apply to these children, I don’t understand. Then an understanding came to me that “No, you are right, it applies to the one that hurt them. I provided a way out for him but he did not take it.”
So again I asked, “So, why would you allow such things to happen?” Again I immediately had an understanding that God did not desire these horrible things to happen to anyone. But mankind has chosen to not do things God’s way and to follow their own lusts. But I also understood that God can use anything meant for evil for the good.
When we go through hard and terrible times we can become more empathetic and compassionate and less judgmental.
Romans 5:3-6 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Then he reminded me of something one of these precious women had said to me. “It is so nice to be able to talk to someone who understands and does not judge or think I am crazy”
“I see Lord, but still it is hard to understand.” Then as plain as the hand in front of my face I saw a beautiful pearl in a shell.
Now I have studied why and how pearls are made before. So I said “Thank you Lord, I know what you are telling me now.”
You see a Pearl is made when a shelled mollusk gets a grain of sand inside of its shell. This sand is very painful for the mollusk so it starts to try to cover it up. You see this poor little thing is just trying to escape the pain, just doing what it must do to survive.
In the description in the encyclopedia it says that many shell fish make what are officially called pearls, but they do not all have the opulence and shine as the pearls we so cherish. They are not all beautiful. You see, the grain of sand is coated with the same substance that lines the heart of the mollusk shell.

What covers your heart? Are you covered with bitterness, hate, and revenge? Are you still trying to hide your pain? Are you still holding on to it or just trying to live your own way without God? When this happens the pearl that forms is dull and misshapen. No one desires it, for it has no beautify.
The Bible talks about Christ’s blood as a mantle, a covering. Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Snow is a beautiful example of a mantle. It is bright and covers everything making it beautiful. And a strange peace comes with the snow. I can’t explain it but there is just a hush about it. I’m sure you have felt it too. That is what Christ’s love will do for us if we will let Him. He will cover our messed up lives and make them a thing of beauty. And Fill you with complete and utter peace.
When we Allow Christ’s love in our hearts and allow him to start the healing of our broken hearts, his Mantle covers our pain making what was once of no value and ugly, something beautiful and opulent, shinny and spectacular to share with the world.
Dear beloved, I know you are hurting and I cry for you and bring you before the Lord daily. Jesus cares for you, and desires to turn your morning into joy. To give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Isaiah 61:3
God is a gentle man; He will not force Himself on you. If you will allow him, he will be able to use you in ways that others would never be able to minister to those with broken hearts and shattered lives. Because of what you have been through you can be the one to hear someone say to you. “It is so nice to be able to talk to someone who understands and does not judge or think I am crazy”
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
The merchant is a picture of Jesus and even in our ugliness and sin, He sees us as a pearl of great price. He gave everything to purchase your redemption. That is how much he loves you!
“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7
